Plastic Waste. It’s Amazing what it can be Made Into!

1024 1024 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

We have all read about it. Plastic waste in the ocean!

From Adidas creating football strips made from plastic waste to the possibility of cars being made from recycled plastic, it is all over the news how plastics are killing our oceans. But did you know you can also have picnic benches, seating, children’s play equipment and even dog agility equipment; all made from 100% recycled plastic?

Marmax Products are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of 100% HDPE recycled plastic outdoor products. We have everything to choose from; from picnic benches, seating, planters and fencing to golf signs, dog agility equipment and children’s play equipment which is all maintenance free, does not rot, corrode or splinter and comes with a minimum guarantee of 25 years.

The HDPE plastic was once milk containers. Approximately 2,700 milk containers are used to manufacture our standard A-frame picnic bench and over 62,000 are used to manufacture our outdoor classroom. To date, Marmax Products have saved over 1/4 billion milk containers from landfill and our oceans! But what does this mean for our customers?

Because all of our products are made from recycled plastic, we are able to offer a vast range of products to suit any age, sector or location. What’s more, we offer a range of different colours to compliment your outdoor area or to even match school colours.

If there is something you may require but can’t see it on our website; don’t worry, we are able to offer a bespoke service and will be able to assist you with any project or even adapt our products to suit your needs.

And there’s more. Once the product has come to the end of its life, we can recycle this back into the extrusion process to be able to manufacture more recycled plastic products for generations to come.

So if you are looking for a picnic bench for your school or caravan park, golf signage for your course, a commemorative seat for your parish or even a dog paddling pool for your re-homing centre, Marmax Products has everything for you.

Do We Really Need to Get Rid of Plastics for Good?

1024 768 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

We all know that plastic waste is a major issue; it’s in our oceans harming the sea life, it’s on our shorelines making it difficult for us to enjoy days at the beach and it is a complete eyesore. It is even ending up on our plates!

There is now going to be a ban on plastic straws and supermarkets and other retailers are going to reduce plastic packaging and go ‘plastic free,’ but there are companies who need plastic, so it can be recycled and made into alternative products, therefore participating in saving the environment, our oceans and the ‘closing the loop’ cycle.

Recently, we have seen Adidas have produced football shirts made from plastic waste, Vivobarefoot are producing shoes from plastic bottles and Marmax Products are manufacturing outdoor furniture and play equipment made from plastic milk containers.

If people took more responsibility with their recycling and was made more aware of what can be recycled, this in turn would help these companies to carry on manufacturing their products which can benefit everyone.

Marmax Products feel that waste should be a resource and not a problem, which is why we use 100% HDPE recycled plastic to manufacture our products. We can produce anything from picnic benches and seating, to play boats and cars, to planters, fencing and boardwalk. Anything that can be manufactured from timber can be made from recycled plastic.

This is why we still need the plastics; so companies can still manufacture their products, help make an impact on the environment and help save our oceans.

Could Teaching Children to Recycle Change the Future?

1024 370 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

We, as adults, know the basics about recycling and what logos to look for on containers to know if it can be recycled. But what if this was taught in schools so that children have the same understanding? Could this potentially change the future of plastic waste?

Teaching children important lessons about recycling in schools, in everyday life and also about environmental issues could change the way children think before they throw away their rubbish.

Before we can even begin to teach the children about recycling, it needs to begin with the adults. If all members of staff, and parents, can lead by example, this will then make it easier for the children to understand.

Making recycling part of teaching in schools does not need to be boring; there are lots of fun activities and projects which can be incorporated into learning that can make the children enjoy recycling.

Recycling Clubs or Councils: Being involved in a club is something that every child enjoys. A recycling club can be an important role for the children to ensure that their peers are putting the correct items in the correct bins. They could also monitor what has been collected on a regular basis and even make a chart of their progress. They may even create games and projects for their peers.

Using Recycled Products in Lessons: Using recycled products in subjects like art and science can also be beneficial to children. By using these products to create sculptures and collages can excite the children, which in turn can then encourage them to use recycled materials around the home; or even collect them to bring to school to use in their next masterpiece. The recycled plastic products can also be used as plant pots, where the children can grow their own flowers or vegetables and monitor their growth as part of any science project.

School Games: Does your school have house teams? Why not get the whole school involved by running a competition to see which house team can recycle the most products.

Contacting your Local Council: Contacting your local council and informing them that you want to begin a recycling program at school can be very beneficial. Councils will be more than happy to work with you and can even help with information for the children as to what can be recycled.

The list of activities is endless of how you can get your children to recycle. By using these methods, this can give children a better understanding of the countless items in schools, around the home and also when they are out and about that can be recycled. This can then be taken a step further by showing the children the current situation of plastic waste in the ocean, the effects this is having on the sea-life and also how we can all help prevent this.

Recycle Week: 24th – 30th September

1024 1024 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

With only one week to go until #RecycleWeek, what will you pledge to recycle more of? How will you inspire others to #recycle more?

Blue Planet II has made a massive impact on the way people look at their plastic waste and has motivated them to recycle more than ever before. It is being discussed in every parliament throughout the world; pledging for everyone to make a difference.

Here at Marmax Products, we see plastic waste as a resource and not a problem and have put together a few top tips on how you can reduce waste and recycle more.

  1. If your workplace doesn’t already have one, start a paper recycling scheme at work. Your local recycling organisation might be able to help. Think about what your printing – does it really need to be printed? Keeping digital copies of files not only helps to reduce waste, it can reduce desk clutter too!
  2. Recycle as much as possible. A lot of people will absentmindedly throw away a mouthwash bottle or a carton of juice without checking if it can be recycled –  most bottles you find around the house can now be recycled. Look for the little recycling symbol on the container before throwing it in the general waste bin.
  3. Buy recycled. The essence of recycling is that eventually the need for virgin materials will be eliminated, and less damage to the environment will ensue. By buying a product that is made from recycled material, you are helping to close the loop on recycling. An example of this is Marmax Products. All of their products are made from 100% HDPE #recycledplastic, so not only are they made from recycled material, the products themselves can be recycled when they are no longer needed, thus closing the recycling loop.
  4. Think outside the box. Paper, plastic bottles and glass are becoming increasingly well known for being recyclable, but did you know that batteries are also recyclable? Your local recycling and waste disposal centre, and sometimes even your local supermarket, will have a battery recycling point for you to use.
  5. Reusable is best. When you’re on the morning coffee run, try to remember to take your reusable travel mug with you. 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups are estimated to be used every year here in the UK, that creates approximately 25,000 tonnes of waste! Coffee chains, such as Starbucks, offer a discount on your morning coffee if you use a reusable mug, so by making the swap to your travel mug, you can save the environment and save some pennies!

Here at Marmax, we love everything about recycling. Without recycling being an everyday occurrence, we wouldn’t be able to manufacture our furniture, play equipment, dog agility equipment and planters the way we do; so thank you for recycling your milk containers.

Lets make Recycle Week the best yet by working towards a greener, cleaner future together.

How Recycled Plastic Outdoor Products can save you Time and Money!

1024 488 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

Picture the scenario. Outside your school, in your theme park or in your local parish, you have wooden outdoor products which you have to clean, stain and varnish all of the time. What if we told you that with our products, you would only need to clean it once a year! Sound too good to be true?

Marmax Products manufacture outdoor products made from 100% HDPE recycled plastic; the plastic which milk containers are made from. Because of this material, it makes our products virtually maintenance free, they do not rot, corrode or splinter and can withstand the harshest of weathers while still looking brand new. And with our 25 year guarantee, we are certain that our products will last for generations to come.

But what’s in it for you?

When purchasing our products, you are guaranteed to save time. Someone has to take time out of their busy schedule to stain and varnish wooden alternatives, but with Marmax Products, you can choose when you clean them down, This may be once a month or even once a year; all they require is either a wipe down with soapy water or jet washed, meaning that you have extra time to carry out your other jobs. This in turn will save you money as it means that you do not have to employ extra staff to cover the additional jobs that you have not been able to complete. Even if your products become vandalised by graffiti, this can be removed with white spirits, again saving you the time of having to paint them to cover it up.

We pride ourselves on our products, ensuring that you receive the best on the market to help save you time and money. Whether you require our products for a playground, zoo, golf course, fishing lake, school or pub garden, we can guarantee that our products can withstand any environment and still keep its appearance all year round.

Finally, when the product comes to the end of its life, we are able to recycle them back into the extrusion process to manufacture more outdoor products for future generations.

The Benefits Of Using Recycled Plastic

533 351 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

Playgrounds are arguably the heart of the school. It’s where friendships are made, where social skills are tested and where invaluable lessons are learned. As we know, spending more time outdoors is beneficial for both the child’s mental and physical health, as well as helping with their social skills and even their learning. Therefore, Marmax are keen to encourage schools across the UK to make outdoor education more of a priority.

At Marmax, we use recycled plastic lumber to build all of our furniture and play equipment. We believe that recycled plastic makes the best furniture for playgrounds due to the nature of HDPE plastic, they’re highly durable, making them perfect for the wear and tear furniture receives.

As well as being able to survive the vigorous testing children put our products through, our products can also be left outside all year round. Able to withstand heavy rain, sunshine, wind and even snow, our recycled plastic furniture is perfect for teachers that don’t have the resources to move large furniture and play equipment around daily.

Our furniture and play equipment, all made from recycled plastic, is also maintenance free, and graffiti can be easily removed, making the products look newer for longer. By being robust and maintenance free, not only are the recycled plastic products safer for the children to use, but they also mean that busy teachers don’t need to worry about their upkeep.

Aside from the practical nature of products made from recycled plastic bottles, the products also save thousands of plastic bottles from landfill. By buying recycled plastic furniture, schools are able to save plastic from landfill and help protect the environment and all the animals that inhabit our land and oceans. Our products act as a starting point in the conversations surrounding the importance of recycling, helping to educate future generations and create a greener future.

Marmax Products and the NSPCC

460 300 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

The NSPCC is the leading children’s charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. They help children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.

The NSPCC’s Speak out Stay safe programme is delivered in Primary Schools to children aged 5-11 and gives a generation of children the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect. Pupils are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or to Childline. With the help of mascot Buddy, the child-friendly, interactive assemblies and workshops help children understand abuse in all its forms and recognise the signs and know how to protect themselves.

Marmax Products are proud supporters of the NSPCC and we are donating more than £1,000 per year to the NSPCC through the sale of our Buddy Benches. These funds could help facilitate the delivery of the Speak out Stay safe programme in 2 primary schools each year.

Our recycled plastic Buddy Bench provides a safe and appealing space in the playground for children to interact, especially outside their usual friendship groups, regardless of gender, race or special educational needs.

The Buddy Bench is created in a curve design to make conversation easier and to encourage non-verbal communication, such as eye contact and positive body language for those who struggle to form relationships easily.

The Buddy Bench is manufactured to enhance inclusion in schools. The challenge of inclusivity is an ongoing issue and finding a new way of bringing children together and breaking down some of the social barriers they face is the ultimate goal.

Catering for school SEN anti-bullying agendas, our Buddy Bench has been continually well-received, with schools reporting how children have been having more conversations and making new friendships.

Marmax Products and the NSPCC are dedicated to the fight for every childhood.

By working together we can continue to prevent bullying and abuse from happening, help children to build friendships and prevent more children from suffering abuse in the future.

5 Easy Steps for Earth Day

638 480 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

Sunday 22nd April 2018 was Earth Day, and this year’s campaign is all about raising awareness of the issues of plastic pollution. Here at Marmax, we’ve already saved a quarter of a billion plastic milk containers from landfill by turning them into recycled plastic furniture, however we know that everyone can do more.

Ditch the straws

There was public outcry on Twitter when popular pubs and bars began to go plastic free but with the UK alone estimated to use 8.5 billion straws a year it’s an essential step to combat plastic pollution. If a straw is completely necessary, try a paper or metal one – they all do the same job!

Reusable carrier bag

After the introduction of the 5p plastic bag charge in October 2015, single-use carrier bag sales have dropped by 83%. We understand that you can get caught short without a bag for the quick supermarket trips, so just keep a reusable bag in the car.

Bring your own cup

The inner lining of most takeaway cups is made from polyethylene which is not widely recycled. Major coffee retailers now run initiatives where you can get a discounted drink if you bring your own tumbler. Saving the environment while getting discounted coffee – what’s not to love?

Plastic free veg

It frustrates every environmentalist out there, wrapping fruit and veg in plastic. Make a conscious decision to only buy fruit or veg that’s not in a plastic wrap.

Research recycling

We know that a plastic-free lifestyle is hard to achieve so it’s important that you know what can and can’t be recycled. Do research on what your local recycling centre accepts and take it from there.

Just taking these five steps in your everyday life can start to impact our Earth’s future and work towards a cleaner, greener future.

Marmax Recycled Products reach Quarter of a Billion Milestone!

800 800 Marmax Recycled Plastic Products

We’re pleased to announce that we have saved a quarter of a billion plastic milk containers from going to landfill!

By preventing so many plastic bottles from going to landfill, we’re helping to reduce the impact plastic has on our environment. Quite often, plastics (everything from carrier bags, to straws, to plastic bottles) end up being blown into our seas and oceans which is hugely problematic. Marine life is being harmed everyday by the sheer scale of plastic that is in the oceans, so by doing our bit in reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans, we’re helping to safeguard both our oceans and the animals that live there.
