The month of January is the time to recycle your unwanted Christmas cards and get ready for the new year.
Christmas cards are paper based, and can be recycled as normal with your household recycling. But be careful, those cards covered in glitter cannot be recycled as easily, and need to be put with your household waste.
If you are unsure what cards can be recycled, you can always take your cards to your local recycling point and they will be able to help you.
There are also selected shops which will collect your used Christmas cards from you and will get rid of them for you.
Recycling your Christmas cards has a number of benefits, which include:
- help to save the environment
- reduce air pollution and water
- saves energy
- reduced waste going to landfill or ending up in the ocean
- protects sealife
- helps to combat climate change
Instead of recycling your old Christmas cards, why not reuse them! Keep them in your craft box and when it comes to Christmas 2021, create your own one-of-a-kid Christmas cards. Your friends and family will feel special when they receive your unique, personalised card in the post.
