West Boldon Environmental Centre, National Grid Substation West Boldon, Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle
The West Boldon Environmental Centre is a partnership between National Grid and Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle. The Education Team have been based on the 13 hectare site for the last 10 years and have recently moved into a new building. Our Erlund House log cabin is constructed from sustainable timber from Finland. The new Centre will host educational sessions for schools and family groups and also provides an excellent venue for training courses.
Marmax Products supplied the 100% UK recycled plastic, used to construct the steps and ramps to the four entrances. They have become an impressive feature of the building and complement the eco friendly nature of the site. The ramp paths and steps were made using a WRAP approved roughened ‘anti-slip’ surface. Recycled plastic will not or splinter, is long lasting and will keep its attractive appearance without the use of chemicals or elbow grease. Also low maintenance means reduced ongoing costs.

The 100% recycled plastic used for the ramps and a recently constructed pond dipping platform in the 13 hectare wildlife haven, was made from the equivalent of 233,480 2pt milk containers. We buy waste plastic in the UK and we manufacture our products here, creating work for the local community, reducing freight miles and minimising our carbon footprint.
